How Apt That It Rains Instead Of Snows
22nd October 2009
Christmas is coming!
hooray!
I'll see their happy faces
when I stand
on
my
head
They'll look at me with sullen eyes
and reach into their magic pouch
and remove from it:
a roll of ten pound notes
They'll pay for that new toy
for little
Jimmy and
Suzy and
they'll get down on their knees
"Thank you Lord" they'll say
While glowing shops smile with full bellies
full of earnings and savings
full to the brim of wealth
and cheer they will not share
As fools embark on hyped up
trips
to
new buildings with
new lights
to dispose of happiness
(in money form)
so they can feel normal
I'll spot them in the queue at work
sad
melancholy
spoiled
unwanted
desperate
poor
but they'll tell you they're in high spirits
cracks will appear on their cheeks
a smile that's forced and practiced
And I'll say:
"Merry Christmas everyone,
I hope you've learned your lesson."
